Privacy Policy
Effective: June 2026 (updated for Ezoic)
Word Puzzle Hub (“we”, “us”) operates wordpuzzlehub.com. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the site, why we collect it, and your rights under the UK GDPR. We have kept data collection to the minimum needed to understand how the site is used.
What we collect and why
We do not require any registration or account. Anonymous page view data is collected for all visitors under legitimate interest. Accepting the cookie notice adds persistent visitor and session identifiers (via cookies) for more accurate analytics. Declining means no cookies are set - only the anonymous analytics continue.
| Data | Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| IP address (masked) | Transmitted to Azure Application Insights solely to derive an approximate geographic location (country and city). Azure masks the IP immediately after lookup - the raw address is never stored. | Legitimate interest |
| Browser type, OS, screen size | Collected automatically with each page view to help us understand what devices visitors use | Legitimate interest |
| Pages visited, puzzle events | We record which pages are viewed and when a puzzle is started or completed, so we can understand how the site is used | Legitimate interest |
| Anonymous visitor and session IDs | Random identifiers (set via cookies) that let us count unique visitors and group events within a single visit. They contain no name or contact details. | Consent |
Rows 1-3 are collected for all visitors under legitimate interest - they do not involve cookies or persistent identifiers. Row 4 (visitor and session IDs via cookies) is only set after you accept. We do not collect names, email addresses, or any other directly identifying information.
Who we share data with
We use Microsoft Azure (Application Insights) to store and process analytics data. Microsoft acts as our data processor and may not use the data for its own purposes.
We display advertisements through Ezoic, an ad management and optimisation platform. If you accept cookies, Ezoic and its advertising partners may set cookies to serve personalised ads based on your browsing activity. If you decline, only non-personalised ads will be served and no ad targeting cookies will be set. Ezoic's data practices are governed by Ezoic's Privacy Policy. You can manage your ad preferences via Ezoic's Ad Choices page.
How long we keep it
Analytics data is retained for 30 days and then deleted automatically. Raw IP addresses are never stored - Azure masks them immediately after deriving geo-location. Anonymous visitor and session identifiers stored in your browser (cookies) expire after 1 year and 30 minutes respectively - see our Cookie Policy for details.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Ask us to erase your data
- Restrict or object to our processing
- Withdraw consent at any time (by clearing your cookies - see the Cookie Policy)
Because analytics data is linked only to an anonymous random ID and not to any name or contact detail, we are generally unable to identify which records belong to a specific individual. If you have a rights request or complaint, please contact us. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to how we collect or use personal data, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, present the cookie notice again to collect fresh consent.
